The Musical Box

The Exclusive, Authorized by Peter Gabriel, Celebrating 50 Years Of Genesis / Selling England By The Pound

Thursday, March 29 @ 8 p.m.

Price:  $56.00 + HST + ticket service fee

The worlds finest “Gabriel-Era”- Genesis experience!  To call The Musical Box simply a tribute band would be an understatement. Band members don’t just play the English prog-rockers’ songs note for note, they meticulously recreate the band’s concerts from the 1970s, from the set to the costumes to the projected visuals to the onstage banter.  The Musical Box initially formed in 1993 in Montreal, to pay tribute to the 20th anniversary of Selling England by the Pound, and they continue to do so, more than 30 years later. They have gained international acclaim for re-creating entire albums of The Peter Gabriel fronted Genesis, such as: “Selling England By The Pound”, “Nursery Crimes”, “Foxtrot “and “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”.

The Drifters

You know the songs, “On Broadway”, “Under the Boardwalk”, “Save the Last Dance for Me”, “Up On the Roof”, “This Magic Moment”, “There Goes My Baby”, and many more. The songs are etched into the memories of music fans worldwide and helped form part of the foundation of contemporary popular music. What these songs have in common is that they are all the product of a veritable hit-making machine better known to their million of fans as The Drifters.                                                                                                                Rick Sheppard is an integral part of that hit making machine. He has been there for more than 45 years. Rick joined The Drifters in 1966 and recorded with the group on Atlantic Records through the early 1970s. “Something I’ve Done Tour”

The Legendary Downchild Blues Band

Friday, April 20 @ 8 p.m.

Price:  $45.54 + HST + ticket service fee

It’s tempting and not altogether far-fetched to apply an engine metaphor to the mighty Downchild, one of the planet’s foremost, most fêted, longest-running blues outfits with quite possibly the best back story ever told.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Roaring through bracing, high-octane performances since 1969, the band founded and continuously steered by harmonica and guitar ace Donnie “Mr. Downchild” Walsh is as vibrant today as when Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi were inspired by Downchild for their brilliant Blues Brothers venture back in the 1970s. The pair elevated Downchild’s “Shotgun Blues” and Walsh’s “(I Got Everything I Need) Almost” to smash status on their 1978 Briefcase Full of Blues record.

Actually, the 2018 iteration of Downchild — with each member boasting a minimum of 20 years of service — might be the most electrifying yet. For proof, simply check out the sextet’s towering, lid-lifting, juke-joint–jumping 18th studio album, Something I’ve Done, a bona fide group effort and a sonic highlight in a 50-year career spilling over with them.

The Barra MacNeils

On The Bright Side

Wednesday, May 30 @ 7:30 p.m.

Price:  $55.75 + TF ticket service fee

The Barra MacNeils are touring this spring in support of their latest release On The Bright Side, an exquisite collection of everything their fans love. It’s an upbeat album, with fiddle tunes that you know will erupt into a flurry of step-dancing on stage. When Lucy sings the heart-wrenching Ribhinn Donn, whether or not you ‘have the Gaelic’, have a tissue handy. You’ll need it. The distinctive family harmonies; an array of rhythmic instruments weaving through and around various themes—some decidedly classical but then, suddenly, very traditional Cape Breton; the lads singing a cappella; a thoughtful solo gradually merging into a frenzied all-hands-on-deck medley … it exudes the passion and energy familiar to anyone who has ever experienced The Barra MacNeils stage show. For the unfamiliar, critical acclaim says it all:  “a treasure of the East Coast, rich with tradition and unmatched in ensemble performance.” …  “The Barra MacNeils capture the feeling of ‘close your eyes and you’re there’.” …  “They play what they like and folks like what they play.” … “Moments of beauty as well as raucous memories like this can linger forever.”

As always, the five MacNeil siblings—Lucy, Boyd, Stewart, Kyle and Sheumas—combine on a vast array of instruments including accordian, guitar, piano, fiddle, bodhran, mandolin, banjo, Celtic harp, tin whistles, bouzouki, flute … underpinned by the nimble-fingered Jamie Gatti on bass. If you’ve ever been wowed by their Christmas show, be prepared to have the wow factor raised exponentially as the band is unleashed from the strictures of the season. “Nothing but dumbstruck awe.” Don’t miss On The Bright Side with The Barra MacNeils!
